Lani pitched Nick on her vision for a story set at a body of water that would be reminiscent of the ambience of a sunset at a rocky beach with pebble shores. Her idea was to explore a more modern take on the classic boho-chic trend that makes its way around to most runways every spring/summer fashion season. She used rich earthy hues and organic shapes in her wardrobe and accessory selections embodying the overall theme of the environment specifically chosen for the shoot. Nick casted Hayley Davis as the muse of the story who brought a playful and childlike serenity to every shot, giving readers and/or viewers a taste of what an elevated summer capsule wardrobe looks and feels like in the blissfulness of a summer’s evening. When Neiman Marcus executives concluded that traditional still shots of merchandise on white backdrops (alone) was not enough to produce a desired conversion rate online, the addition of thoughtfully produced on-figure jewelry visuals was the first line of action with the objective of giving shoppers greater insight on the products they browse on the Neiman Marcus website. Lani partnered with the brand and their creative team to elevate and modernize the brand’s online presence with a fresh e-com photoshoot concept that would debut their new couture collection for Spring/Summer 2023, parallel to their new website that (when launched) would offer out-of-state clients an elevated viewing experience for future collection debuts. Utilizing the Adobe Creative Suite programs (mainly Photoshop), Lani turned an e-com product image with a solid white backdrop into an ad mockup that could be mistaken for a lightly weathered page from a fashion magazine spread. What may pass as a humble artistic interpretation to those with seniority in the fashion publishing space, to Lani, is a sweet representation of the courage to dabble in a complex craft that she has no formal training in but is passionate about. The Stanley App has now transitioned into a newly designed, all-encompassing, Neiman Marcus app that acts as a hub for all things related to the luxury fashion pioneer’s fashionable offerings. The Stanley App, as it was known, aimed at blending content creation and Neiman Marcus’ signature luxury shopping experience in effort to further promote interaction with consumers on-the-go. The Stanley app gave Neiman’s customers an extra dose of style inspiration, curating an in-app experience specific to the customer’s style preferences and consumer patterns. Lani joins Dallas based fashion photographer Nick Glover for a Monday afternoon shoot-sesh, featuring hair stylist Victor Kanardy and makeup artist Jamie Fawn. The shoot began in-studio where the duo incorporated bright yellow vinyl backdrops in varying compositions, and ended the day outdoors in Downtown Dallas where slabs of stone and concrete set the scene for model Saniya Allen of Wallflower Management. Lani features a beloved Proenza Schouler trench coat in a layered look accessorized with black leather pieces. Toning down the layers and setting the scene for an elevated occasion in the city, “Sequins Over Stone” is the next look marked by a minimalistic silhouette—a black sequined full-length evening gown. Taking it back to the studio, an oversized maroon Róhe blazer over a pair of black tights served the classic IDGAF mood that is known and loved by many. Having the opportunity to create a shoot around pieces from both Spring/Summer and Pre-Fall 2022 collections set off an alarming sense of pressure to embody such prestige that is the house of Alexander McQueen. The challenge was to conceptualize a shoot that embodies the grandiose of the brand, in little to no time, with zero budget—the “make due with what’s already available” scenario that most fashion industry creatives know all too well. The first order of business was to cast talent that could match the power and sense of royalty that is quite literally displayed in the McQUEEN name—someone that would wear the clothes, and the clothes not wear them. With this criteria in mind, there was no one better than Nina Kong of Kim Dawson agency—a sheer icon herself! Those who work with Nina can attest to her elegance and her natural ability to move with grace yet deliver such powerful poses, effortlessly. The next move was to call on photographer/videographer Nick Berryman, who’s skillful abilities with capturing movement and manipulating light are nothing short of impressive. Each piece that Lani curated for the shoot was meant to bring a sense of formality with structure and clean lines. The lime green Attico blazer included in the looks supports the overarching theme with its silhouette that features strong shoulders and a defined wrap waist tied in a bow. Lani accessorized the looks with subtle pops of silver to marry the subject (model Clarissa Ornelas) to the chrome props used in the photoshoot’s set composition. In juxtaposition with the soft lighting and muted tones reminiscent of film photography, Lani combines the crisp lines of a utilitarian Bottega Veneta trench coat with statement accessories by Khaite and Saint Laurent. To create further contrast, Lani features a pleated ruffle Givenchy look with a men’s Givenchy suit jacket, accessorized with thigh-high Prada platform boots. The third and final look includes a romantically sheer blouse by The Row untucked over an Alexander McQueen drop-waist gathered skirt, and paired with Khaite accessories. The Stanley app gave Neiman’s customers an extra dose of style inspiration, curating an in-app experience specific to the customer’s style preferences and consumer patterns. On the back-end, the NMG photo production teams worked closely with buyers, brands, and shoot coordinators to create brand-specific content for multi-channel use, including the Stanley app. During her tenure with the Neiman Marcus Group, Lani specialized in Brunello Cucinelli brand-specific styling & art direction, having been trained by and worked closely with Brunello Cucinelli representatives in the past. Lani supported both Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman in styling multiple Brunello Cucinelli womenswear collections each season for both companies’ online presence.
